Steel Metalwork from Ed Dean of Palm Springs fame.
As a builder and developer, Ed spent 50 years putting architectural elements together to create award winning residential and commercial structures. Once retired, he started designing sculptures for his personal enjoyment as well as for family and friends.
His organic and angular ideas take on shapes, shadows and fluidity using materials such as steel, bronze, copper, aluminum, stainless steel and glass. They are then finished by either powder coating, automotive paint, polished nickel, rusty steel or other chemical processes.
Ed also incorporates the thoughts of his wife Carol, a regarded interior designer, for a perspective on scale, finish and placement.
The process usually starts with pencil sketches, moving forward to scale models constructed of foam board, plastic or wood. The next steps are fabrication and finishing.
